textures are also a must. will do proper tuts shortly.. but essentially, you can use textures as a background image, or as an overlay. if the texture is on-top, play with its opacity.. or add a layer mask to it in photoshop, then use a black gradient (or black brush tool) over your texture to reveal the background subject. court pic from deviantart
